Granite Town On The White River

Bethel gave its name to a granite pale enough that it ended up in buildings across the country, and the legacy of that industry is still visible in the stonework around the village: steps, walls, curbing and foundations that were cut here. Stone is a bigger share of the exterior work in this town than almost anywhere else we go.

The rest of it's river valley. The White River runs through the middle, Route 107 and Route 12 carry the traffic, and the properties along both hold damp well into the morning. Shaded walls here grow heavier than the same wall would up on a ridge.
